FALL FOLIAGE WORKSHOPS: OCTOBER 6-8

BEGINNER GLASSBLOWING: Jim Holmes
Glassblowing is an exciting and mesmerizing process, as you watch the transformation of the glass from glowing honey to glittering solid. Students will learn the use of tools, gathering techniques and how to blow basic forms such as cups, bowls and paperweights along with attaching handles and feet. With one-on-one instruction, students will have an opportunity to complete a number of pieces. (Tuition $380 plus $100 lab fee) room & meals $160

GLASS BEADMAKING WITH ENAMELS AND FOILS- Nancy Tobey
This class is designed the student with some lampworking experience who wants to take their work to new levels. With the use of Thompson Enamels and a variety of metal foils you will learn how to change the texture of your beads, increase your color palette and create an organic look that resembles that of borosilicate glass. Students will be encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone with glass and learn some creative ways to experiment with glass and various materials. (Tuition $315 plus $80 lab fee) room & meals $160

WOOD TURNING: Mark Ragonese
From functional bowls and utensils to elegantly turned vessels, this practical workshop will fee your creative spirit. Combine the mesmerizing symmetry of shaping on the lathe with the beauty of thoughtfully carved wood. Top it all off with the opportunity to experiment with a variety of woods from ash and poplar to walnut and cherry. Mark is a dedicated teacher whose style and breadth of knowledge will inspire folks at all experience levels. (Tuition $295 plus $20 lab fee) room & meals $160

THE SQUARE WHEEL: Altered Forms: Sequoia MillerNew Class This Year
Northwest studio potter Sequoia Miller shares his thoughts and methods for altering wheel-thrown pots in this three-day hands-on workshop. Participants will work both on and off the wheel, using Sequoia's techniques as a starting point for exploring both the why and how of distorting and re-imagining round forms. Demonstrations will include altered cylinders and bowls, as well as altered lidded and pouring forms. Studio time, individual attention, slides and discussion will complement the demonstrations. Experience on the wheel is very helpful, though the workshop can be handbuilding entirely. (Tuition $295 plus $20 lab fee) room & meals $160

MARRIAGE OF METAL: Rob PeacockNew Class This Year
With all the soldering we do as metalsmiths why not take it to another level? Learn the process of Marriage of metal. Create unique patterns using numerous combinations of brass, copper, nickel, bronze, silver, and gold. Polka dots, stripes, checker board, zig zags, are just a few of the many patterns that can be achieved. Students will learn all of the soldering techniques involved to create unique one of a kind patterns. Some soldering experience is preferred. (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

KILN GLASS: Paula Kochanek
This class is great for those with or without glass experience and has wide applications for both sculptural and functional forms. We'll cover fusing and slumping, as well as surface decoration. Paula's emphasis is on the creative process, giving attention to your individual needs. You'll complete several pieces with projects ranging from fused two and three dimensional panels to slumped bowls, plates and even jewelry! This is a workshop that enables participants to develop an intimate understanding of the boundless potential of glass. (Tuition $295 plus $40 lab fee) room & meals $160

ADVANCED PHOTOSHOP CS: Sean McDevitt
This advanced workshop is for students who already have a working knowledge of Photo ShopCS or Photo Shop Elements. Improve and refine digital imaging skills through Sean's extensive knowledge and expertise. The focus will be on color contrast correction, image manipulation and getting the best prints possible from Inkjet printers. An information packed workshop for students wanting to broaden their digital world. (Tuition $295 plus $40 lab fee) room & meals $160

HAND FELTED ACCESSORIES: Lesley HansardNew Class This Year
Let your imagination go wild! Play and design with wool and color in this hand-feltmaking workshop. You will be introduced to the ancient technique of felting by creating personal one-of-a-kind pieces out of fine merino wool. Lesley will teach you fundaments in feltmaking and several hat making techniques such as: "around the ball" and "with a resist". You will learn how to lie out, felt and block unique hats, handbags, scarves or wall hangings and how to decorate them. This is a terrific workshop for all ability levels and is a craft that can be easily done at home or in a classroom. (Tuition $295 plus lab fee) room & meals $160

COLLAGE & ASSEMBLAGE: Free Flowing Collaboration: Alexandra Sheldon & Alison SaffordNew Class This Year
Alexandra and Alison team up to teach Collage and Assemblage together. Two classes in one! This is for collage students wanting to explore three-dimensional art-making and assemblage students wanting to learn the two-dimensional approach. Under one roof, this class will combine two fabulous techniques allowing students the freedom to flow between collage and assemblage. The focus will be on the individual student's concepts and methods, with the two instructors guiding the student through materials and techniques. For beginners and advanced students alike. We will play with different materials and ways of joining them; papers, metals, glues, rivets, washes of color, found objects, photographs and more. A BIT OF BOOKISHNESS: Polymer Clay & Mixed Media Artists' Books: Victoria HughesNew Class This Year
Artists' books are a creative art-form that combines technical, conceptual and one-of-a-kind approaches to the idea of 'book'. In this class, we will begin by investigating the nature of the book itself. We will explore surface and dimensional approaches to polymer clay, including how to meld fibers, metals, glass, earth, texts, images, small objects, and more into the polymer itself. We will play with ways to generate personal content, narrative, poems, assemblages of images, and the like, for your book. Polymer clay is an ideal medium for this flow from content to object: it can be pages, covers, embellishments, dimensional elements in more sculptural books. GLASS BEADS: Sally Prasch
Venetian glass techniques are world-renowned and this workshop will focus on lamp worked hand-wound beads. We will discuss and explore a range of techniques including trailing, feathering, pulling latticino and working with murrinis. The results are far ranging, from classic to highly patterned beads to detailed tiny sculptures which can stand on their own as wearable art. This workshop is perfect for both beginner and experienced students. (Tuition $230 plus $50 lab fee) room & meals $115

RAKU FIRING: Hot! Hot! Hot! Bob Green
Raku is a dramatic firing technique rooted in the tea ceremony of ancient Japan. Pots are taken out of the kiln red-hot and placed in a combustible material such as wood chips or paper. Depending on the glaze used, results can vary from lustrous metallic to a white crackle. No prior ceramic experience necessary. Students should bisque fire their white stoneware or porcelain pots to cone 06. (Tuition $205 plus $10 lab fee) room & meals $115

LIGHT UP YOUR LIFE: A LANTERN MAKING WORKSHOP: Alison SaffordNew Class This Year
Learn to design and create your own lantern for use indoors or out, to provide a unique addition to a child's room, or a fun focal point for your porch! In this workshop we will create light sculptures-whimsical, functional, or anywhere in between. Basic torch brazing, steel rod forming, wire working techniques will be introduced to create the basic structure of the lamp. Students will have a variety of options for the skin of the lamp - paper, cloth and more. Basic lighting techniques and non-electrical lighting sources will also be introduced. FOUND OBJECT JEWELRY: Alan Burton Thompson
Integrate classic metal techniques with found materials and memorabilia. Learn to make common objects into a precious piece of jewelry evocative of both past and present. This workshop is designed to add breadth to your palette and depth to your work. The full range of expressive possibilities and technical aspects of integrating this limitless range of materials will be explored. This workshop will provide new focus and direction for the experienced jeweler, as well as a perfect beginning for enthusiasts from other media and experience levels.
